This figure is adapted from Abatzoglou and Williams 2016, "Impact of anthropogenic climate change on wildfire across western US forests". For the years 1985 to 2015, the figure highlights modeled burned area that would have occurred without anthropogenic climate change (ACC) (based on model climate projections) and compares this to modeled burned area that accounts for anthropogenic climate change forcing.
This resource does not explicitly attribute climate change (CC) to anthropogenic forcing, as was done in the original literature. Because climate change is a natural process which is catalyzed by human activities, being explicit about ACC vs. CC is important here.
