American Meteorological Society Washington Forum

Tuesday, April 2, 2013 - 09:00 to Thursday, April 4, 2013 - 05:15

This year's theme for the annual forum held in Washington, DC is “the value and sustainability of the weather, water and climate enterprise.” Recent research indicates that the annual economic impact of weather events is as much as $485 billion in the United States. Improved weather forecasts and prediction capabilities will emerge as Earth-observational data from more accurate and higher-resolution satellites lead to improved Numerical Weather Prediction forecast models.

The purpose of the forum is to provide an opportunity for members of the weather, water, and, climate community to meet with senior Federal agency officials, Congressional staff, and other community members to hear about the status of current programs, learn about new initiatives, discuss issues of interest to our community, identify business opportunities, and speak out about data and other needs.
